Shuffles are short, informal chats between colleagues who don't usually talk. They work because everyone feels safe to turn up and be themselves. These guidelines apply to everyone using ShuffleDesk, and form part of our Terms of Service.
Be the colleague you'd want to meet
- Be kind and respectful. You're talking to someone from your own organisation. Your workplace's usual standards of conduct still apply.
- Keep it light. There's no agenda. Ask about their week, their weekend, what they work on. It isn't the place for a sales pitch or a performance review.
- Show up. Cameras on where you can, and give the other person your attention for those few minutes.
- Respect boundaries. If someone doesn't want to talk about something, move on.
Never
- harass, bully, threaten or demean anyone, or make unwanted advances;
- discriminate against anyone, or use hateful language, including about race, ethnicity, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability or age;
- share sexually explicit, violent or otherwise inappropriate content;
- record, screenshot or share a chat without the other person's clear agreement;
- pressure anyone to share personal or confidential information.
You can always leave
Anyone can end a chat at any time, for any reason, and doesn't need to explain. If a chat feels wrong, just leave.
Reporting a problem
If someone breaks these guidelines, use Report a problem after the chat. Reports are private and reviewed by the ShuffleDesk team. The other person isn't told who reported them. Depending on what happened, we may:
- contact the person;
- suspend their access to ShuffleDesk;
- let your organisation's ShuffleDesk admin know that a safety report was made, so they can follow their own workplace policies.
If you're in danger, or something illegal happened, contact the relevant authorities, and speak to your manager or HR team as you normally would.
